Bauer's Steps Ahead Program

Bauer's Steps Ahead is a group available to anyone wanting to stay involved in the community, especially those who are mourning the loss of a loved one. An outing to an area event is planned each month and anyone interested may attend. Past trips have included a Polynesian Fire and Dance Show, a visit to PNC Park, tours of various museums and outings to a number of local concerts. Costs vary for each excursion, and details are about future events are generally released a month ahead of time. Bauer's Steps Ahead to take "Wonderful" tour {November 14, 2011}

On Tuesday, December 6, 2011, the Bauer's Steps Ahead group will be visiting The Jimmy Stewart Museum in Indiana, PA. The group will experience a bit of Hollywood magic as their personal guide presents highlights of the numerous galleries depicting the memorable life and film career of Jimmy Stewart. The museum will also be adorned with themed decorated Christmas trees pertaining to his life and movies. The feature presentation, "The Making of a Wonderful Life," is a 45-minute documentary shown in the 50-seat film theatre. A box lunch including a turkey or chicken salad croissant, muffin, chips, cookie and beverage will be provided.

The group will meet at the Bauer Funeral Home in Kittanning for bus transportation at 9:15 AM. The cost is $25 and includes transportation, the tour and the boxed lunch. Reservations must be made by Tuesday, November 29, 2011.

Bauer's Steps Ahead goes on Fall Foliage Tour {October 19, 2011}

On Tuesday, October 18, 2011, the Bauer's Steps Ahead group went on a wonderful fall foliage tour of Armstrong, Clarion and Butler counties. They traveled through New Bethlehem and Rimersburg, ending at the Rosehaven Bed and Breakfast in Butler. Debbie Carey, proprietor of Rosehaven, served the group an elegant luncheon consisting of fruit, soup, assorted gourmet sandwiches and a dessert plate. After lunch, Debbie gave a tour of her beautifully decorated home and presented each guest with a keepsake before leaving.

November's Bauer's Steps Ahead event will be our holiday grief program, "Surviving the Season." The program is available to anyone interested and will be offered at the Bauer-Hillis Funeral Home, 758 Main Street, Rimersburg, on Monday, November 14, 2011 at 7 p.m. and at the Bauer Funeral Home, 515 N. McKean Street, Kittanning, on Wednesday, November 16, 2011 at 7 p.m. "Surviving the Season" will be led by Jenna Rhodaberger, MSW, LSW, Bereavement Coordinator and Medical Social Worker of the VNA Hospice of Western Pennsylvania, and is intended to help survivors cope with the grief they feel during the holiday season. Light refreshments will be served following the program. Reservations are requested but not required, and admission is free.

Bauer's Steps Ahead enjoys Polynesian Dance and Fire Show

On Wednesday, September 20, 2011 the Bauer's Steps Ahead group attended a Polynesian Dance and Fire Show at Seven Springs Resort. A group of 25 people, along with Bauer Family Funeral Homes Community Relations Manager, Sandy Mikita, and Funeral Service Associate, Bobbi Blinn, began the day with a light breakfast the Bauer Funeral Home and then took a bus to Seven Springs. For lunch they were served a delicious chicken meal and settled in to watch the exciting show featuring authentic Hawaiian dancers and singers, Tonga dances and Samoan flaming fire dancers.

Bauer's Steps Ahead Hear a Patio Concert at Concordia

Participants in Bauer Family Funeral Home's outreach group, Bauer's Steps Ahead, were special guests at the beautiful campus of Concordia, located in Cabot, Butler County, on Aug. 28, 2011. Everyone was greeted by the gracious Concordia staff and escorted to the beautiful outside patio to join other residents in enjoying the evening's feature musical entertainment. Starting at 6 PM, the Staff's Band, made up of keyboard, drums, guitars and saxophone, entertained everyone for the evening. The concert performance lasted one hour and was a mixed repertoire from a range of years of well-known selections, greatest hits, polkas and patriotic music. Light refreshments were served by the Concordia staff during the concert.

Bauer's Steps Ahead Group Tour the Frick Art and Historical Center {August 2, 2011}

Bauer's Steps Ahead Group Toured Frick Art and Historical Center

On Wednesday, July 27, 2011 Bauer’s Steps Ahead group visited the Frick Art and Historical Center located in the Point Breeze area of Pittsburgh’s East End. Docents escorted the group through Clayton the restored mansion of the wealthy Pittsburgher and one of America’s greatest industrialist and art collector, Henry Clay Frick. The group learned about the Frick family, local history and Victorian social customs at the turn of the 20th century while touring the Frick family home. In addition, everyone walked through the beautifully landscaped gardens to visit the Greenhouse, Café and the Museum Shop that are all on the Frick Estate. Also, at the Car and Carriage Museum the group saw rare, vintage autos and horse drawn carriages on display.

Bauer's Steps Ahead Group to Tour the Frick Art and Historical Center {July 07, 2011}

On Wednesday, July 27, 2011, the Bauer's Steps Ahead group plans to tour Clayton, the restored mansion of wealthy Pittsburgher and industrialist Henry Clay Frick. The group will meet 11:45 AM at the Bauer Funeral Home, 515 N. McKean St., Kittanning and a bus will then take us to the Point Breeze area of Pittsburgh to the Frick Art and Historical Center. A docent will guide us through the Frick mansion and enlighten us as to how the Frick family lived at the turn of the 20th century. In addition, there will be time to visit the Car and Carriage Museum, Art Museum, Greenhouse or the Museum Shop, which are all on site. For those of you who wish to go but cannot walk the entire tour, feel free to bring your own wheel chair. It can be transported in the bus storage area and a guest can be invited to assist you. The wheel chair can be used to go from each building and the first floor of the Frick mansion is wheel chair accessible. There are also areas that have seating for resting. Reservations are necessary and due before July 18.

Bauer's Steps Ahead Group Travels to PNC Park

On Wednesday, June 1, 2011 Bauer's Steps Ahead group met for an early morning buffet style breakfast which was served in the dining room at Lenape Heights Golf Course. After breakfast they boarded a bus to travel to PNC Park, home of the Pittsburgh Pirates Baseball Team for a guided walking tour of the stadium. This interactive tour took the group through all areas of the ballpark including the dugout, batting cages, press box, club level, museum, Legacy Square and Hall of Fame Club. Our personal guide had a wealth of information that he shared about the history of the Pittsburgh Pirates and the city of Pittsburgh. The exciting day ended with a snack that was served on the bus as they headed back to Kittanning.
